This is a true icon of
American motoring. The 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback is a car that needs little
introduction and even less justification. Imported in July 2014 and cared for by
just two former keepers since its arrival, this Mustang has been in current
ownership since July 2017, where it has clearly been cherished and enjoyed as
intended.
Originally finished in red,
the car now wears a striking what looks to be Springtime Yellow, a
period-correct hue that perfectly suits the Mustang’s muscular lines and
unmistakable presence. Under the bonnet, what began life with the original 289
cubic inch engine has since benefited from a sympathetic yet purposeful upgrade
to a 302 V8, bringing displacement to 5000cc and providing the sort of
effortless performance that allows this classic to hold its own confidently in
modern traffic.
The driving experience has
been thoughtfully enhanced, with front brakes upgraded to a Willwood disc
conversion and power steering fitted, transforming usability while retaining the
car’s classic character. An automatic transmission is paired with a B&M
shifter, offering smooth, decisive shifts and an engaging feel behind the
wheel.
Originally hailing from North
Carolina, this Mustang is accompanied by its import documentation and a
comprehensive history file that speaks volumes about the care and attention it
has received since arriving on these shores. The paperwork details numerous
works carried out over the years, too extensive to list, but all contributing to
the car’s excellent overall condition and
reliability.
Recently, the ignition system
has been refreshed with new plugs and coil, alongside an engine compression test
and a full carburettor rebuild. The result is an engine that idles cleanly and
accelerates eagerly, delivering its power with the confidence and soundtrack of
a thoroughbred racehorse. This is not a garage queen as it has been driven
and enjoyed regularly for the past nine years, in both rain and sunshine,
exactly as a Mustang should be.
A true piece of American
cultural history, immortalised on screen in legendary films such as Bullitt and
Gone in 60 Seconds, this car offers a rare opportunity to own a living,
breathing symbol of the golden age of muscle cars.
It was driven to site
from the vendor’s home and was found to be starting, running, and stopping
exactly as expected during photography and video
capture.
Finally, the pièce de
resistance, at the push of a button, the Mustang Dark Horse sound effect brings
this car dramatically to life, adding an unmistakable sense of theatre and
excitement that must be experienced to be fully appreciated. This is a Mustang
